Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a major Hindu festival celebrated in India and some other parts of South Asia. It holds significant cultural, religious, and historical importance.

The tradition of burning Ravana is performed as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. It is believed that Lord Rama had freed Mother Sita from his clutches by killing Ravana on the tenth day of Shuklapaksha of Ashwin month in Tretayuga. In this celebration, Ravana Dahan is done in most parts of the country.

The tradition of burning Ravana was started in Ranchi in 1948 by refugees from Pakistan. This small event has now become a big event for Ranchi. Thousands of people gather in the Ravana Dahan program organized in Morhabadi, Argora and Dhurva areas of Ranchi.

Here are some key aspects of the importance of Dussehra:

• Victory of Good Over Evil: Dussehra commemorates the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, as described in the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. • Marking the End of Navratri: Dussehra falls on the tenth day of the Navratri festival, which celebrates the divine feminine energy in the form of Goddess Durga. It is a time of fasting, prayer, and devotion, and Dussehra marks the culmination of these nine days.
